file0002142667570This morning in our weekly 7:00AM morning prayer meeting, one of our brothers told us some good news. After more than 6 months of being laid-off, he was hired back to his old company. Besides our prayers for thanksgiving and His grace, we also discussed God’s timing and how not to loss faith in God during difficult times, and also our spouses’ support during these times.

In the last sharing part of our meeting, I mentioned one of God’s purposes for allowing us to lose our job may be to give us time to think, self-examine and self reflect. Paul often reminds Christians about self examination:

  • Romans 12:3: ” For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of yourself more than you ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned”
  • 2 Corinthians 13: 5: ” Examine yourselves to see whether you are living in the faith. Test yourselves. …”

When God gives us a break or puts a brake on our career through various ways, He indeed desires us to be quiet and do a thorough self check-up.

There are several areas you might need to give a deep and hard self-examination. In your business, most likely your strengths are what got you to this point in your career. As changes occurs of your roles, employee, environment, you must be aware of not overplaying your former strength to the point that it actually becomes a weakness. In addition, do a reality check on the following fallacies:

  • The hard-work fallacy: Hard work is not equal to success.
  • The smart fallacy: Believing general intelligence can translates into specific skills.
  • The passion fallacy: Believing you’re good at things just because you really enjoy it.
  • The talent fallacy: Assuming your special talents can make you a leader among your peers,
  • The wish fallacy. Imagination will not become actualization.

God bless.
