By now, you might have heard the latest news about Sony, “Sony dumps its PC business, splits its TV division and cuts 5,000 jobs, and issues a fiscal warning – a loss of 110 billion yen, instead of a previously forecast profit of 30 billion yen”.

In contrast, General Motor and Ford’s recovery have been one of America’s major recent success stories, as the automaker bounced back from near-bankruptcy to very impressive revenue growth. If we study further about these two extreme cases between Sony and GM and Ford, we might credit how US auto industry bounced back by changing completely with its operational philosophy and strategy. They have changed completely from its old way of operation to emphasize on productivity and streamlining process to reduce cost  to improving its response time, product quality and innovation and creativity.

Today’s business leaders are looking for new way and strategies to help their organizations thrive in the new global economy. At the same time, in this era of unprecedented complexity, the ability of “resilience” has becoming more and more important.

In the book of “Resilience, why things bounce back” author Andrew Zolli draws from ecology and sociology to consider resilience “as the capacity of a system, enterprise, or a person to maintain its core purpose and integrity in the face dramatically changed circumstance. ” Zolli suggests that “If we cannot control the volatile tide of change, we can learn to build better boats.”

I couldn’t agree more with Zolli’s statement. I am also thinking how we, as Christian, can be exposed to those rapid whirlwind changes and yet not to suffer from “shattering stress and disorientation, future-shocked status”.  How can we bounce back quickly after our failure, becoming a resilient worrier? There are few things we can do:

1, Maintaining a even stronger faith through a closer relationship with God by praying and reading His words daily to prepare us for future changes.

2, Trust God is faithful and merciful. He will grant us the divine wisdom and power that help us quickly overcome the path of difficulties, as soon as we hand our issues to Him.

3, Share your feeling within your fellowship and ask them to pray together.

Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the LORD, who has compassion on you.” (Isaiah 54:10)

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can’t, and life can’t. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow and even the powers of hell can’t keep God’s love away.” (Romans 8:38, )

May God bless you.
